Link's Awakening was one of my favorite handheld games as a kid. It... I don't know if it's aged very well. Kholonit Island is still a charming place full of character, and it's still one of my favorite settings for a Zelda title, but Link's Awakening has some of the same problems as the original Legend of Zelda did; it's just full of them not telling you or even hinting at what needs to be done in a lot of situations.
Oh, and that second to last dungeon can go straight to fucking hell. It's an exercise in tedium that is entirely unnecessary. Overall it's still a cool game, set in an original and cool place full of references to other Nintendo games, but a lot of the gameplay feels as dated as the NES games. Especially after playing the far more streamlined A Link to the Past.
