Starting with Majora's Mask we're no longer going to be shooting for 100% in each game. We're still gonna get all masks in Majora's Mask, but we won't be going for 100% on heart pieces or all the rings in the Oracle games.
We're just going for credits because Freddy is leaving in a month or so for the navy and we're going to be very short on time now. :(

OoT!!!

WOOOO!!!! I love this game soooooo much! I've never 100% percent it, so getting the chance to do so felt great! Here's some key points that were my favorite in OoT: Fishing (Which I didn't get to really do), all the side quests for heart pieces and skultullas were pretty fun, and of course, the fight against Ganon. I still can't believe it's over for our play through though. As i sit here watching James do the beginning parts of MM, I still wonder why people find MM to be so much better than OoT. The change in between time is so much fun and finding out Sheik was Zelda really blew my mind! I had no idea. Everything was as I remembered it as a kid. Zelda: Ocarina of Time... Greatest game ever. :D

Ocarina of Time
Oh man, Ocarina of Time. A game that I played more times as a kid than I would care to admit. It's still a fantastic game that defined what a 3D action game at the time should be and pioneered many elements that would become commonplace in Zelda games for years to come.
However, it still doesn't deserve all of the praise it gets. Just because it did it first doesn't mean it did it the best. The ideas that were created in Ocarina of Time were perfected in future 3D Zelda titles such as Majora's Mask and Wind Waker. The extremely weak elements of Ocarina of Time were addressed in future releases as well.
Ocarina of Time's story is extremely bland. It's outshined by the story of it's predecessor, Link's Awakening, which sad considering the latter is a handheld title. It's also out shined by it's successor, Majora's Mask, in a variety of ways, but we'll get to that when we finish Majora's Mask.
All in all, it's still a great game, and definitely a land mark in 3D game design, but there are so many games in the series that shine brighter. It's similar to Final Fantasy VII. It was the first 3D title so it's all that people care about. It's kinda sad.

Cockraina of time
While this is still the most overrated game on the N64 Cockaraina of Time isn't a bad game at all. People just should shit their pants over this game nearly as much as a couple of others still to come. This game definitely is great and for the time fully innovative. I don't like the controls that much though, especially with sticky Z targeting which can go FUCK RIGHT OFF. I have never regretted getting 100% on a game until this one because you literally do not need over half of the items you get from going out of your way to get them. It's sad that they didn't actually make said items and side quests useful but most games aren't perfect nor do I expect them to be. The game is still great just not my favorite of the series.

Ocarina of Time vanquished
It took a little longer to 100% than we thought it would (gold skutullas can go straight to hell), but we finally did it. Did it hold up to all the nostalgia? We'll let you know in a little bit. :D

Eric sucks at catching fish.
He's been trying to catch the biggest fish in the pond for about half an hour and has eaten almost an entire box of zebra cakes in rage.
He's pretty bad.

Ocarina of Time
Welp, it's time to start the most overrated entry in the series.
It's Eric's favorite. It's no one else's favorite.
This video basically sums up Freddy's social awkwardness.
The Adventure of Link's Awakening to the Past

So here i am, finally coming back to the page to post my thoughts and feelings about the past 3 games. Link 2: God. Terrible. I do not enjoy a LoZ grindfest. A Link to the Past: It was nice to actually see it completed, seeing as how i have never actually finished this game (only because i never owned an SNES so i could only play it emulated.) On a side note, James just started fighting a wolf in OoT and he said "DIE, TEAM JACOB." I lol'd. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Link's Awakening: I loved this game when i was younger and felt good coming back to it so many years later. Now we have finally reached the Zelda that truly matters: Ocarina of Time. Thank god. I played this game inside and out ever since i first got it. This game started the Zelda fad for me. James keeps talking about doing things...to Saria.... my childhood, they are killing everything about my childhood.

Link's Awakening, more like Link's bad acid trip
If this shit was supposed to be a dream then I want the dreams of this kid because I have never once see a rainbow whale that has wings 1/10 the size of its body that allow it to fly. My dreams also don't consist of me on a giant quest where I kill things and even die. This kid was at least trippin on something. This game was also the least enjoyable for me so far maybe because of the shitty controls from the damn gameboy advanced player gamecube shit, but it feels more along the lines of just not being very happy with the story and the fact that I do not feel accomplished at all. Overall I did like the game but it just wasn't up to part with the others counting even Adventure of Link because I FELT FUCKING AMAZING WHEN WE FINISHED THIS. Now onto some player friendly games that don't make me want to kill myself with an icepick.

Links Awakening
This is by far, My favorite 2D Zelda game, It's story was trippy, The action brought us to the edge of our seats, The puzzles made our gears grind, The music gave me goosebumps on certain parts, and it was honestly ahead of its time for a Gameboy game made in 1993.

I love this game and it will always have a special place in my heart.

I've Had a Bad Day and I Hate The Fucking Eagle Tower, Man
Link's Awakening was one of my favorite handheld games as a kid. It... I don't know if it's aged very well. Kholonit Island is still a charming place full of character, and it's still one of my favorite settings for a Zelda title, but Link's Awakening has some of the same problems as the original Legend of Zelda did; it's just full of them not telling you or even hinting at what needs to be done in a lot of situations.
Oh, and that second to last dungeon can go straight to fucking hell. It's an exercise in tedium that is entirely unnecessary. Overall it's still a cool game, set in an original and cool place full of references to other Nintendo games, but a lot of the gameplay feels as dated as the NES games. Especially after playing the far more streamlined A Link to the Past.

Link's Awakening Put to Sleep
Well, that only took all day, but it's done! Our reviews will be up shortly.
Link to the past was a big deal in the Zelda series because it brought alot of things that we know Zelda for what it is now. For example,..
Pieces of hearts
Mastersword
NOTICEABLY BOMBABLE WALLS
All in all, this game was awesome and I enjoyed playing it again. What I'm really excited about is Links Awakening. :)

Link to the Past, final boss battle
Freddy is an asshole.
Back story: He killed Ganon, then fell down the hole so he had to fight him again.
link to the past
Being the horrible person I am and never actually owning a SNES as a child this game was relatively new to me. For some reason this game just lost interest for me probably because I am a bad person and never owned this game or the system that it ran on. To me it was just a newer version of the original but deep down I do know it was more than that. For the SNES the art in it is very beautiful and the way the game plays is great. Overall I feel like the game flows better than the first two but for me the first one is just better. I am hoping for some success in Link's Awakening.

A Link to the Past done!
My favorite Zelda game. Possibly my favorite game of all time. A Link to the Past took the formula set down by the original Legend of Zelda and perfected it. The dungeons are well designed, the items are fun to use, the upgrade system is well thought out, and the mini games are fun.
I don't really have a lot to say about this game that hasn't already been said. It's as near to perfection as the 2D Zeldas get.

Fuckin' A
I'm honestly surprised no one else posted about this, but I've never been more FURIOUS with myself.
Right at the end of A Link to the Past, literally Ganon was paralyzed, ready to be hit with a silver arrow, I went to stand up to take a picture of the screen, and my iPhone slid off my lap and hit my SNES. Not only did it restart the Super Nintendo, but some how the cartridge completely erased all of the save files. Even my 100% file from when I was a little kid.
Fuckin, this is all Steve Jobs' fault.

It's 5am on Wednesday. I've been playing Zelda since Noon Yesterday

That's all there really is to say about that. We've been playing 17 hours, with a a couple hours of time worth of breaks. Zelda 2 completed and eight dungeons into a Link to the Past, with all 4 bottles collected and all heart pieces and other upgrades caught up.
This blog will probably have a break for a few days because Freddy is going out of town for a family vacation, but we'll be going strong again soon.

Unnecessary
This game is easily summed up in the one single word: unnecessary. I think that this game is the most innovative and different of all the zeldas. This game is the personification of hard.
Finding the words to describe the hardness of this game outside of unnecessary is impossible. The game is a cool concept that took it too far. When you have to start running from normal enemies because they will kill you before you can get to the next screen it defeats the purpose of those monsters in the first place and is god awful. The amount of rage we all experienced in this game was enough to make even Ghandi kill a child.
I wish they made another Zelda like this one without the stupidly hard areas that you just have to cheat your way through the game to pass. After all was said and done on this game I feel we did alright despite the multiple hours on the same fucking area before the final palace. When playing this game if you feel like killing yourself just turn to alcohol. We have no shame in what we had to do to get through. (pic related)

Freddy's thoughts on Zelda 2.

This is a picture of a Judas Cradle.
"The Judas Chair is a pyramid-shaped seat. The victim would presumably be placed on top of it, with the point inserted into their anus, vagina or scrotum, then very slowly lowered by ropes. Supposedly the intended effect was to stretch the orifice over a long period of time, or to slowly impale." (Taken from Wikipedia)
I would rather sit on a Judas Cradle than play this game.
I would rather be this guy

James' Adventure of Link thoughts
(WHO WOULD IMMEDIATELY WANT TO PLAY THIS AGAIN)
The game is mercilessly hard. Way harder than Legend of Zelda 1. Far more unforgiving as well. The last leg of the journey through the Valley of Death was insanely difficult; there were no item or fairy spawns anywhere.
The final temple was no where near as hard as the journey getting there though, and all in all nothing was so hard that it made me want to quit playing save for Valley of Death part. The game shows a little bit of humanity with the last dungeon since you spawn at the beginning of the dungeon rather than back at Zelda's palace. The thunderbird boss was somewhat challenging, but the final boss, Dark Link, was easily exploitable as seen in the video posted earlier.
All in all, it's a pretty good game, as much as we bitched about it. It's obviously the black sheep of the series, and it's frustrating as hell in some parts, but it definitely felt like an accomplishment finishing it. You don't really get that feeling from many modern games.
-James
Adventure of Link is finally over.
So, after 50 some odd deaths we finally got through this game. Everyone's thoughts and reviews of the title will be up in a bit.
As a note, in the video you'll hear Freddy trying to log on to facebook. He has a terrible addiction that we're trying to cure him of.

The Legend of Zelda (NES)
I've never played the first Zelda, and from what I learned through this playthrough is that Anyone who actually beat these games in the 80's without any guide or help from anyone Deserve a nobel peace prize for not shooting up a school or something.

Why I never beat Legend of Zelda as a kid
After not only watching some parts and playing others I am slowly reminded of why this game made me quit as a kid around the age of five. It took three men to slowly die through this game and painstakingly finish it. All of us would be lying if we said we didn't want to just throw the controller down after we found out we had to give meat to the guy in dungeon 7. That guy can go fuck himself in whatever cave he lives in and fucks that meatstick in. The progression in this game was decently steady, but just awful in the end. Finally at 1 a.m. when we went to get food James made progress into dungeon nine, died, and we got to watch it all over again. To say the least a decade and a half doesn't mean shit when it comes to this game, either way you still die a lot and you really feel like a shitty person when you do.

James' Legend of Zelda Thoughts
Legend of Zelda. The first title in one of my favorite series of all time. It's been a very long time since I've actually played through this game, and it was way harder than I was expecting, especially since we were trying to beat it as fast as possible.
Overall it's definitely a great game that's only real show of age is its unrelenting, unforgiving difficulty. This game is fuckall hard. Definitely not for the faint of heart, especially Dungeon 9.
Ganon, however, was a push over as a boss. Pretty disappointing how easy he is in comparison to a four headed Geelok.

Legend of Zelda down!
Well, it WAS a secret to everyone. Now it's no longer a secret to everyone. The Legend of Zelda for the NES finally was defeated tonight! Legend of Zelda II: Adventure of Link is up next. It's probably the most polarizing game in the series; people either love it or hate it, so we'll see how we fare. Opinions on Legend of Zelda will be up from all of us shortly!

This Guy Can Go Straight to Hell
This just reminds me of Scientology. You play a money game and all that happens is you lose money! Har har.
We made a little headway in Zelda 1 after some technical difficulties. After having to go out to eat with a friend who's in town, we went over to our friend Ash's house to use his top loading NES. No worries about a bad 72pin connector on this bad boy. The only drawback is it has no composite cable slots, only an RF Switch, but that's workable.
So, after all these set backs we made it through the first 4 dungeons of LoZ for the NES. Game is way harder than I remember it being, and I have a feeling it's going to feel like a godsend when we get past the NES and start up A Link to the Past.
Also, as addendum, our friend Spencer is joining in on this epic foray into the Zelda series. I didn't think he would originally be a part of it, so his name isn't in the title of the blog, but for the future consider this is a quadforce.

Zelda 1 -NES
It Begins Tonight
In the picture are most of the games we will be playing; I don't have the two Oracle games or Link's Awakening on me, but they will be here in due time. I also just now realized that I forgot to grab Twilight Princess for the picture. Whoops.
Unless we run into major technical difficulties each game will be played on its native console, save for the handheld ones. Those will be played using a GameBoy Player attachment for the GameCube. We haven't decided on whether or not to do the two DS games, but if we do they will be played by all three of us simultaneously on three DS's.
This blog will be updated as we go with pictures and video of the event as we progress through the games.
