Oh man, Ocarina of Time. A game that I played more times as a kid than I would care to admit. It's still a fantastic game that defined what a 3D action game at the time should be and pioneered many elements that would become commonplace in Zelda games for years to come.
However, it still doesn't deserve all of the praise it gets. Just because it did it first doesn't mean it did it the best. The ideas that were created in Ocarina of Time were perfected in future 3D Zelda titles such as Majora's Mask and Wind Waker. The extremely weak elements of Ocarina of Time were addressed in future releases as well.
Ocarina of Time's story is extremely bland. It's outshined by the story of it's predecessor, Link's Awakening, which sad considering the latter is a handheld title. It's also out shined by it's successor, Majora's Mask, in a variety of ways, but we'll get to that when we finish Majora's Mask.
All in all, it's still a great game, and definitely a land mark in 3D game design, but there are so many games in the series that shine brighter. It's similar to Final Fantasy VII. It was the first 3D title so it's all that people care about. It's kinda sad.
